Auris
Overview
Auris is a local macOS utility. It does not transmit, upload, or share any personal data or audio. All measurements and session history are stored only on your Mac. There are no analytics, no crash reporting, and no external network connections made by the app during normal use.
Microphone access
Auris requests Microphone access in System Settings. This permission is used solely to measure sound pressure levels from your chosen audio input device. Audio is processed entirely on-device in real time — raw audio samples are never recorded to disk, never transmitted, and are discarded after each measurement tick. Only derived numeric values (SPL in dBA/dBC, dose percentage) are retained.
Session data
Session history — including start/end times, dose percentages, average and peak SPL, and DAW names — is stored locally at:
~/Library/Containers/com.headroom.Auris/Data/Library/Application Support/Auris/sessions.json
This file never leaves your device. Sessions older than 30 days are pruned automatically on launch.
Preferences and settings
Your settings — selected input device, calibration offset, DAW list, dose preferences, and notification settings — are stored in UserDefaults locally on your Mac and are never transmitted.
Auto-update checks
Auris uses Sparkle for automatic updates. Sparkle periodically fetches the appcast feed at https://headroomstudio.dev/auris/appcast.xml to check for new versions. This request includes your macOS version and CPU architecture so Sparkle can determine compatibility, but no personal data is transmitted. You can disable automatic checks in the app's menu.
Purchases
When you purchase Auris, payment is processed by an external payment provider. That provider's privacy policy applies to the transaction. Headroom does not receive or store your payment details.
